70. A Fast Week With Progress Made

This week’s weather has been much more normal for this week and it has allowed me to check things off of my to do list that is always long this time of year. Although the week seemed to fly, I still feel accomplished. Let’s get into what I’ve done.

First up, I was able to get all my watermelons, cantaloupe, pumpkins and winter squash in the ground. Right now, the area seems so bare and everything seems so spread out but I know that it won’t take long and the vines will cover all the ground. I also re seeded some of my bean plants where I had a section that was spotty germination as well as a bed of zucchini.

My roses are beginning to bloom and they are all looking gorgeous. Every year I see them bloom and it makes me think of my great grandmother. She had the most gorgeous and large rose bushes in her yard. One of mine smells like the ones she used to have so they are definitely sentimental to me. I need to find more space in my yard for more.

My dahlias are beginning to sprout as well. As soon as they are all up, I will turn on irrigation to them. I am hoping they will all give me a pretty show this year and I will have lots of blooms and pretty pictures for you all. The row that is behind them still needs to be planted with sunflowers and zinnias. I am hoping to get to that soon so all the flowers can be blooming close to the same time.

I was also able to get everything planted at our church’s community garden. I went about my plan differently this year to hopefully grow things for the community in a better way then I did last year. I hope to one day sit down and write down all my thoughts on my experience starting a community garden and tips to help anyone else out who may want to do the same.

Last update for this week is that I spent some time making jam. We have several great strawberry farms near us so I never feel the need to carve out a large space in my own garden for them. Although I have a Greenstalk planted with some, those are more just for garden treats and fresh snacks. I still have several jars of strawberry jam leftover from last year’s crop so I didn’t make quite as much this year. I also took my frozen blueberries from last June and made them into jam as well.

I hope you are able to get into your garden and enjoy it this week.

Until Next Time, Happy Gardening!
